Justice Ginsburg Takes First Sick Day Ever

In an ominous sign for the Left, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was absent from the bench on Monday for the first time in her decades-long career. The leave of absence comes just over two weeks after Ginsburg, 85, underwent surgery to remove two malignant nodules in one of the lobes of her left lung. Ginsburg fell the month before the surgery and broke three ribs, leading to the discovery of the cancerous nodules. Ginsburg has an established medical history of colorectal (1999) and pancreatic cancer (2009), which were both treated with surgery in between court sessions. Just last year Ginsburg had commented that she will serve “as long as I can do the job full steam…,” which combined with recent health concerns leaves open the possibility that President Trump may well get another Supreme Court pick. On Monday, for the first time in her career as a Supreme Court Justice, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will not be sitting on the bench as the court hears oral arguments.

Court spokeswoman Kathleen Arberg stated that Ginsburg, 85, who has served on the court since 1993 after being nominated by former President Bill Clinton and being confirmed by a vote of 96-3, will still peruse briefs and a transcript of the two oral arguments scheduled for Monday, according to The Washington Post.

On December 21, Ginsburg underwent surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York to remove two malignant nodules in her left lung; one of the two lobes of her left lung was removed. She was released from the hospital on December 23.

The last two months have been brutal for Ginsburg, as she fell on November 7 and broke three ribs. It was during the examination of her broken ribs at George Washington University Hospital that the cancerous nodules were found.

She’s Baaack!

Former House Speaker Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is Speaker once again in the new 116th Congress. Pelosi has prioritized impeaching President Trump and ratcheting up the Russia collusion investigation but not necessarily in that order. The vote hinted of at least some defections, with a notable block of “Never Pelosi” Democrats voting for other candidates or “present.” Reportedly, Pelosi only clinched the gavel because she promised to term limit herself. If you believe that, we hope to interest you in some real estate in the Everglades.

Here’s more from Breitbart…

The first woman to wield the gavel of the House of Representatives is on track to secure it for a second time on Thursday, as a rebellion against her from within her own ranks was crushed from election day until now.

As the onset of the 116th Congress approaches, convening at noon on Thursday, Jan. 3, 78-year-old Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is the only declared Democrat candidate for Speaker of the House. Barring any unforeseen circumstances or last-second shenanigans by Democrat rebels against her, Pelosi will win back the Speaker’s gavel on Thursday afternoon–putting her in the driver’s seat on negotiations with President Donald Trump on everything from the ongoing government shutdown to major federal policy decisions on just about every issue.

Pelosi served as Speaker from January 2007 until the beginning of January 2011, for two Congresses when Democrats held the majority at the end of the George W. Bush administration and beginning of the Barack Obama administration, but she has been stuck in the minority since Republicans took control of Congress in the 2010 midterm elections.

Democrats Target Electoral College for Elimination

On the first day of the new 116th Congress, Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN) introduced two bills seeking to amend the Constitution to favor the Left and its vast conspiracy theories against sitting president Donald Trump. The first bill targets the electoral college for elimination, and the other seeks to prohibit presidents from pardoning themselves or members of their families, administration, or campaigns. Major population centers have long supported the progressive agenda, and abolishing the electoral college would eliminate any fair chance for conservatives to win elections. The framers of the Constitution are surely rolling in their graves.

Here’s more from The Daily Wire…

Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) introduced two bills on Thursday, one to eliminate the electoral college and the other to prohibit presidents from pardoning themselves or their family members.

A press release from Cohen’s office stated that the “senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, introduced two Constitutional Amendments today on the opening day of the new Congress. The first would eliminate the Electoral College and provide for the direct election of the President and Vice President of the United States. The second would limit the presidential pardon power by prohibiting presidents from pardoning themselves, members of their families, members of their administrations and their campaign staff.”

“In two presidential elections since 2000, including the most recent one in which Hillary Clinton won 2.8 million more votes than her opponent, the winner of the popular vote did not win the election because of the distorting effect of the outdated Electoral College,” Cohen said.

First Order of Democratic House: Impeach Trump

California Democrat Brad Sherman used the first day of the new Democratic House to deliver on his party’s promises to impeach President Trump. Sherman reintroduced legislation dating back to 2017, which accuses the president of obstructing the FBI Russia investigation. He and cosponsor Representative Al Green (D-TX) claim the firing of former FBI Director James Comey is proof positive. “There is no reason it shouldn’t be before the Congress,” Sherman argued to the Los Angeles Times. “Every day, Donald Trump shows that leaving the White House would be good for our country.” Translation: Democrats are hell-bent on roadblocking Donald Trump at every turn, first by hamstringing his reelection with the specter of impeachment. In so doing, they may only further confirm the likelihood of a second term.

Here’s more from Washington Examiner…

A California Democrat is wasting no time trying to impeach President Trump as the Democratic Party retakes control of the House.

Rep. Brad Sherman plans to reintroduce a measure Thursday — the first day of Democratic control of the chamber — that accuses Trump of obstructing justice in the Russia investigation. Sherman listed the firing of former FBI Director James Comey as proof of the alleged obstruction.

“There is no reason it shouldn’t be before the Congress,” Sherman said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “Every day, Donald Trump shows that leaving the White House would be good for our country.”

Sherman originally introduced the measure in 2017 with Rep. Al Green, D-Texas.

“I author Articles of Impeachment not to change our national policy,” Sherman said in a statement at the time.

Bernie Gets Burned for Climate Remarks

Self-proclaimed socialist phenom Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) sounded the climate alarm on Tuesday, claiming that climate change merited the same degree of priority and response as “a devastating military attack.” Sanders foamed through Twitter, “We must look at climate change as if it were a devastating military attack against the United States and the entire planet. And we must respond accordingly.” Jim Hanson replied wryly, wondering if Bernie is “gonna nuke the Sun?” Indeed. And if global warming is such a threat, shouldn’t we move to DEFCON 1 and declare war on the weather? Insert facepalm.

Here’s more from The Daily Wire…

Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) was widely mocked after he claimed on Tuesday that the United States should respond to climate change the same way it would respond to “a devastating military attack.”

“We must look at climate change as if it were a devastating military attack against the United States and the entire planet,” Sanders tweeted. “And we must respond accordingly.”

Sanders’ tweet drew widespread mockery on social media:

House Dems Gear up for Climate Fight

House Democrats are ready to hit the ground running next week when they officially take control of the lower chamber in the new session, and they’re starting with a new and novel Select Committee on the Climate Crisis. The committee will be led by Representative Kathy Castor (D-FL), presently a member of the House Energy Committee, and will focus on “reducing pollution, growing green jobs, and expanding climate-related national security concerns.” Nancy Pelosi explained, “The American people have demanded action to combat the climate crisis, which threatens our public health, our economy, our national security and the whole of God’s creation.” In what may be a momentary instance of brilliance, socialist-elect Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) retorted that the panel “sounds about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.” That May be a bit too generous.

Here’s more from PJ Media…

WASHINGTON — House Democrats are preparing to take control of the lower chamber next week by forming a new Select Committee on the Climate Crisis — but some members of the caucus aren’t happy.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the caucus’ choice for the next speaker of the House, today announced the appointment of Rep. Kathy Castor (D-Fla.), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, to lead the select panel.

“She will bring great experience, energy and urgency to the existential threat of the climate crisis,” Pelosi said in a statement. “This committee will be critical to the entire Congress’s mission to respond to the urgency of this threat, while creating the good-paying, green jobs of the future.”

She called Castor, who has served in Congress since 2007, “a proven champion for public health and green infrastructure, who deeply understands the scope and seriousness of this threat.”

“Pocahontas” Launches 2020 Committee

Uber-left crusader Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) announced on Monday she’s launching a White House exploratory committee for a 2020 bid. During the announcement, Warren blasted the federal government, arguing that it “has been bought and paid for by a bunch of billionaires and giant corporations that think they get to dictate the rules that affect everyone,” calling out the “corruption, pure and simple.” RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel quickly retorted, “Senator Warren couldn’t be more out of touch. Americans will see her for what she is: another extreme far-left obstructionist and a total fraud.” Indeed. What’s more, she’s a hypocrite. Warren is supported by some of the wealthiest corporations in the land, and she’s not all that impoverished herself either. But then again hypocrisy is par for the Democrats’ course.

Here’s more from Fox News…

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren said Monday she is filing paperwork to launch an exploratory committee for president, taking her first major step toward a 2020 run for the White House.

“Today, I’m launching an exploratory committee for president,” Warren, 69, a Democrat, said in a video released to supporters.

In her announcement, the liberal firebrand argued government “has been bought and paid for by a bunch of billionaires and giant corporations that think they get to dictate the rules that affect everyone,” calling it “corruption, pure and simple.”

“That’s not how government is supposed to work,” Warren said. “You know it. I know it. And we know it is time to fight back.”

As for details about her campaign, Warren said she’ll “announce a plan” early in the new year.

Warren burst onto the national scene a decade ago during the financial crisis with calls for greater consumer protections.

Ohio Lawmakers Override Kasich Veto of Gun Fix

Under cover of the hectic Christmas season, Ohio Governor John Kasich (R) vetoed a proposal rightly putting the burden of proof on prosecutors in cases of self-defense shootings. That’s when Ohio lawmakers overrode the veto of H.B. 228 despite Kasich’s adamant claims that it violated the state’s “home rule” and local government sovereignty in enforcing firearm legislation. Kasich instead shared his preference for “red flag” laws rather than legislation fixing the premise of guilt for gun owners in keeping with America’s constitutional right to due process. Once a self-professed moderate, Kasich has clearly jumped the fence for greener, Leftist pastures. Any thought of running for president in the future may already be up in (gun)smoke.

Here’s more from Washington Examiner…

The state Senate in Ohio has overridden a veto from Gov. John Kasich on a gun proposal that pushes the burden of proof to prosecutors in shootings involving self-defense.

The Republican governor on Dec. 20 vetoed House Bill 228. The state Senate then convened after Christmas session and the GOP-majority chamber overrode Kasich’s veto.

H.B. 228 makes several changes to Ohio’s law regarding firearms. One of the most notable involves adjudication of self-defense shooting cases. The burden is now pushed from defendants to prosecutors to show the accused did not use their weapons “in self-defense, defense of another, or defense of that person’s residence.”

“This has never been the law in Ohio,” Kasich wrote in his veto statement. “The defendant has always had the burden of proving self-defense.”

Trump Threatens to Shut Down Southern Border “Entirely”

One week into the federal government shutdown, President Trump is vowing to “close the Southern Border entirely” if Schumer and Pelosi continue to reject his demands for $5 billion to finish securing the U.S./Mexico border. “We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with,” Trump blasted through Twitter. The amount in question represents just 0.13% of the budget, yet it has become a nonstarter for the open borders Left. It’s a game of political chicken, and someone’s going to lose big as things begin to heat up in the battle for 2020. What Democrats have yet to realize, however, is that voters are squarely in the border security camp, and it may be too late for Schumer and Pelosi to change their tune.

Here’s more from The Daily Wire…

On the seventh day of the federal government shutdown, President Trump threatened to “close the Southern Border entirely” if Democrats continue to reject his demands for money to “finish” building a wall on the U.S.-Mexican border.

Last Friday, Democrats refused to approve $5 billion for the wall, even though the amount is just 0.13% of the budget. Instead, Democrats — led by Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), expected to become Speaker of the House in January — decided to let the government partially shut down instead.

“We will be forced to close the Southern Border entirely if the Obstructionist Democrats do not give us the money to finish the Wall & also change the ridiculous immigration laws that our Country is saddled with,” the president wrote on Twitter.

Flashback: Schumer Admits Border “Far More Secure” with Fence

Back in 2009 when border security was a dead letter with Barack Obama at the helm, Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) supported constructing hundreds of miles of border fencing along our border with Mexico. Why? In his own words, fencing the southern border made it “far more secure” because it posed a “significant barrier to illegal immigration.” But that was then. During the same period, Schumer laid out a set of seven principles during an address at a Georgetown University immigration conference in which he detailed, “The first of these seven principles is that illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple.” My how things change when the wheels of political fortune turn. Nowadays, one would think that Schumer, arms locked with Pelosi, is the caped crusader for open borders and the plight of migrants and refugees the world over.

Here’s more from The Daily Wire…

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said in 2009 that construction of hundreds of miles of fencing along the southern border made the border “far more secure” because it created a “significant barrier to illegal immigration.”

Schumer made the remarks while addressing the 6th Annual Immigration Law and Policy Conference at Georgetown University about the seven principles he said were the basis of an immigration reform package that he wanted to pass.

“The first of these seven principles is that illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple,” Schumer said. “When we use phrases like ‘undocumented workers,’ we convey a message to the American people that their government is not serious about combating illegal immigration, which the American people overwhelmingly oppose.”
