Netflix is the latest Hollywood elitist company to threaten Georgia with a boycott after the state’s new abortion restrictions were signed into law. Netflix reports it may “rethink” filming and their “entire investment” there if the law isn’t scrapped, but conservatives are already mounting their own boycott threats against Netflix if it follows through, and with the success of conservative and Christian films in recent years, pressure from Hollywood may result in an entirely separate cottage industry. In response to Georgia’s new law prohibiting aborting babies with a detectable heartbeat, Netflix said that the company may “rethink” filming in Georgia if the law goes into effect. In response, some conservatives are saying they will consider boycotting Netflix if they follow through on the Georgia boycott.
In a statement to Variety, Netflix’s chief content creator Ted Sarandos said the company will work with the ACLU to fight the Georgia law in court.
“We have many women working on productions in Georgia, whose rights, along with millions of others, will be severely restricted by this law,” Sarandos said. “It’s why we will work with the ACLU and others to fight it in court.”
